Below is a list of some frequently asked questions, but please feel free to call our office if you need additional information, (212) 532-0002. We are always pleased to assist you.

Can I begin treatment with my first appointment?

In some cases yes, however, it is best if you schedule an initial consultation where we have time to talk about your specific cosmetic and aging concerns and formulate an individualized treatment plan that works best for you! During this time we can test hidden areas of your skin to see how you will react, and if necessary start you on a treatment regimen to maximize results and prevent complications such as hypo or hyperpigmentary changes in your skin. This also applies to the those interested in incorporating anti-aging treatments into their regimen.

How many treatments will I need to regain that healthy youthful look?

Again, every patient is different, and at the initial time of consultation we will formulate a treatment plan that works for you and your budget. We generally recommend packages in series of six treatments where the sixth treatment is always free! This seems to give the best results for IPL, Laser Vein and Hair removal, as well as Chemical Peels and Microdermabrasion. However, you always have the choice to purchase one treatment at a time.

What is anti-aging medicine? Can you really stop the aging process?

Anti-Aging Medicine is the fastest growing medical specialty in the world, and is practiced by thousands of healthcare providers in every country, everyday! The core belief in this discipline lies in providing the body with all the nutrients needed to maintain health, initiate tissue and cellular repair, and hence help you maintain health, vigor, and beauty, with a little help from your anti-aging aesthetic physician of course!

There are varying degrees of aggressiveness ranging from nutriceutical use and health maintenance, to Hormone Replacement Therapy. In my practice, I ONLY utilize nutriceutical therapy to help repair tissue both at the level of the DNA and at the level of the tissue. I do not believe at this time the evidence in the medical literature supports the use of Hormone Replacement Therapy. If I find a patient has a true medical condition requiring replacement ( IE Hypothyroid, etc) I am happy to refer them to one of my Endocrine colleagues for further management and hormone replacement therapy.

Anti-Aging Medicine provides patients with a way to heal from the inside out and I have found in my practice that this equates with even more beautiful results. The goal of anti-aging medicine is to not only delay the inevitable, but enhance the quality of your life, and at the same time keep you looking strong, fit and youthful!

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a highly purified protein injected into the skin to relax the muscles that cause some kinds of wrinkles.

Do the injections hurt?

The needles for BOTOX® are much smaller than those used for collagen and Restylane®; patients are often surprised at how little pain BOTOX® injections cause.

Who should not have BOTOX®?

Women who are pregnant, breast-feeding or who hope to become pregnant, and people who are taking certain antibiotics, have neuromuscular disorders or an allergy to BOTOX® should not have injections.

How does microdermabrasion work?

The particles scrape away the surface layer of aging or damaged skin, which is then brushed off with the microdermabrasion vacuum tool, with no need for anesthesia. Only a small amount of skin is removed, so damaged areas on sensitive areas such as the face, chest, neck, arms and hands can be treated.

Are all skin types eligible for treatment?

Yes. In fact, the procedure is particularly helpful for Asian and dark-skinned patients who risk skin discoloration with other anti-aging treatment options.

Can other procedures be performed at the same time?

Microdermabrasion is often performed in conjunction with other anti-aging procedures, such as laser treatment and chemical peels.

What do chemical peels treat?

Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin on the face to smooth texture, reduce scarring, and remove blemishes and pre-cancerous growths to produce healthy, glowing skin.

What are the different types of chemical peels?

There are three types of chemical peels, ranging from mild to strong - alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), tricholoroacetic acid (TCA) and phenol - and formula strengths are tailored to each patient.

Is a peel painful?

Anesthesia is not required because phenol and TCAs act as an anesthetic while AHAs produces only a slight stinging, though you may be given a sedative. In an AHA peel, the skin is cleaned and the solution applied; there is no need for "after-peel" ointment or covering. During TCA and phenol peels, the skin is cleansed and solution is applied, which may cause a brief stinging sensation. Petroleum jelly or a waterproof adhesive tape may be put on the skin following a phenol treatment.

How does laser hair removal work?

Lasers produce highly focused, intense beams of light that are absorbed by dark pigments in the hair follicles beneath the skin's surface and converted to heat, destroying the follicles and preventing hair growth for up to two years.

How many laser hair removal treatments are required?

Multiple laser hair removal treatments are required for complete removal because the follicle must be "active" at the time of treatment and not all follicles are active at the same time.

Who is a good candidate for IPL Photo Facial?

The best candidates have sun damage, freckles, age spots, acne scarring, enlarged pores, and redness caused by broken capillaries and rosacea.

Are IPL Photo Facial rejuvenation treatments safe?

Yes. Advanced light systems have been used safely for millions of treatments worldwide. These systems treat only the targeted tissues, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. However, some bruising or redness may occur.

What results can I expect?

After only one treatment, your skin will have a more even tone with a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will fade. Pore sizes will shrink. Fine lines and wrinkles will gradually decrease in size. These improvements will steadily increase with each treatment. Patients with rosacea will see a progressive decrease in redness with every treatment.

How does laser vein removal work?

The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in your blood and collapses the unwanted vein. The laser energy is delivered through a hand-held device with a cooling tip that protects your skin.

Can Thermage be used in place of a facelift?

While not a substitute for a surgical facelift, the Thermage procedure can be used on patients with a moderate amount of sagging skin and wrinkles. The Thermage procedure is sometimes referred to as a mini-face lift, ThermaLift or DermalLift by physicians who have observed that this non-surgical procedure lifts and tightens tissue, similar to a facelift without the surgery.

How does Thermage work?

With the gentle touch of the device tip, the surface of the skin is cooled, while the deeper tissue is altered by radiofrequency heating. This not only tightens deeper skin tissue, but jumpstarts new collagen production, which occurs over a period of time.

What does the procedure feel like?

With each touch of the Thermage treatment tip, there is an immediate cool sensation, followed by a brief hot sensation, followed by a cool sensation. The top layers of your skin are protected with a cooling spray while radiofrequency energy heats the collagen in the lower layers. The procedure is very safe, as it is performed by a technology cleared by the FDA to treat periorbital skin laxity and wrinkles.
