I'm frequently get asked what can be done to keep skin healthy and radiant during the holiday season. This may seem easier said than done, but here are some simple pointers that will help you look your best!

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!!

This means first and for most, make sure you are properly hydrated, and drinking the good stuff. Alcohol and caffeine are your enemies, leading to dehydration, poor skin tone and turgor and causes the complexion to lose its radiance. The increased carbohydrate consumption leads to glycation of our cells and tissues which has been shown to increase wrinkling in the skin.

It is no surprise that folks tend to get more breakouts this time of year as well. We now know that treating acne successfully requires a multifaceted approach and combination therapy – so you may need more than just that cream or pill in your medicine cabinet.

Multifaceted Skin Care Approach

Keep in mind your skin care regimen may need altering for the winter months, as changes in temperature, humidity, and uv exposure can all cause changes in the skins appearance. I always tell my patients just as your wardrobe changes with the seasons, your skin care regimen may need altering as well. Many patients respond well to additional moisturizers and topical anti-oxidants, while others benefit from extra alpha hydroxyl acids. Still some may need to induce increased turnover of their epidermis with either a manual or chemical exfoliation.

Those dark spots and broken capillaries (once that glowing tan), can be safely removed with Intense Pulsed Light treatments. Finally those deep wrinkles and folds can be treated with a variety of agents such as Botox Cosmetic® as well as various dermal fillers.
